What 짊 means
It gets its meaning as part of a Korean word.
In 어깨에 지다, literally “to bear on the shoulders,” a responsibility is pictured as a load; 짊어지다 uses the same burden image. The word around 짊 makes clear which action is meant.
Why is 짊 one block?
It combines four Hangul letters into one syllable block.
Hangul letters, called jamo, combine into syllable blocks. 짊 has an opening consonant, a vowel, and two ending consonants. A Korean input method joins those parts as you type. Unicode also includes the ready-combined syllable as one character, keeping the block intact for display and when a line wraps. Hangeul was devised in 1443 to write the speech of Joseon, the Korean kingdom of that time; the date belongs to the writing system, not to this individual syllable.
