What 쬠 means
Type ㅉ, then ㅚ, then ㅁ in a Korean input method.
A Korean input method (IME) is keyboard software that builds Hangul syllable blocks from an initial consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant; these three inputs form 쬠.
What does 쬠 mean in Korean?
쬠 is the noun form of the Korean verb 쬐다.
With 햇빛 (sunlight), 햇볕 (sunshine), or 모닥불 (campfire), it means basking or warming; with 광선 (beam) or 방사선 (radiation), it means exposing something to that energy. The verb is attested in Middle Korean in Worin seokbo, a Korean text, in 1459.
Why does 쬠 form a block?
Hangul groups the sounds of a syllable into one block. Hangul was announced as a new writing system for Korean in 1443, and its earliest surviving published form appeared in 1446. At a time when Korean writing used many Hanja (Chinese characters), Hangul offered a way to represent Korean sounds in syllable blocks.
Unicode decomposes 쬠 into ᄍ ᅬ ᆷ: an initial consonant, vowel, and final consonant. Modern Korean spelling is based on a unified draft from 1933; text normalization can display those separate jamo instead of one precomposed block.
