Hangul syllable Jjut

쭡 is a single Korean syllable, and the surrounding word tells you what it means. Say it with a tense “ch”-like beginning, “oo,” and a final t stopped without another vowel. On a standard two-set Korean keyboard, enter ShiftW, N, X.

What 쭡 means

By itself, it gives you a syllable, not a full word meaning.

쭡 combines ㅉ, ㅜ, and final ㅌ. To say it, start with a tense sound close to “ch” in “chew,” say “oo” as in “food,” then stop at t without adding a vowel. The Latin spelling jjut is an approximate romanization, not a translation.

Hangul, the Korean writing system used to build this syllable, was devised in 1443 and introduced in 1446 with Hunminjeongeum, a guide to the new alphabet. Its design made Korean easier to write without first learning Chinese characters (Hanja), long used in Korean writing. The Korean government made Hangul its official national script in 1894. After 1945, North and South Korea followed different policies on Hanja, while both kept Hangul. These dates describe the script’s history, not the first use of this particular syllable.

How do I type 쭡 with a Korean keyboard?

On standard two-set Dubeolsik, enter ShiftW, N, then X.

With a Korean input method active, those keys enter ㅉ, ㅜ, and ㅌ in order and assemble them into 쭡. Phone and three-set layouts may assign different controls.

Why can 쭡 appear as separate letters?

It is usually the same syllable in decomposed form.

Unicode’s decomposed form (NFD) stores it as three joining Hangul letters, called Jamo: 쭡. The composed form (NFC) stores it as the single block 쭡. A font or app may show the parts separately. The spelling looks different, but it represents the same syllable.

In Korean text, it is neutral. Alone, it reads as a syllable fragment or character sample, not a social signal.
