hangul syllable jjyeos

Hangul Syllable Jjyeos

7832/11172

By itself, 쪗 has no fixed word meaning: it is one Korean Hangul syllable block, built from ㅉ, ㅕ and ㅅ. In a Korean word, the surrounding syllables supply its meaning and can affect how final ㅅ sounds. A Korean 2-set keyboard composes the block as you type.

What 쪗 means

Its meaning comes from the Korean word around it.

The block spells one syllable: ㅉ is its first consonant, ㅕ its vowel, and ㅅ its final consonant.

The 1446 Hunminjeongeum, a guide to the new Korean script, documents this block-based system. Hangul grouped a consonant, a vowel and sometimes a final consonant into one syllable block, giving Korean a writing system alongside Chinese characters. Chinese-character writing remained dominant in official and elite settings; Hangul also circulated among common readers, women, Buddhist publishers and novel readers before it entered public writing.

How do I type 쪗?

On the Korean 2-set keyboard, press ShiftW, U, then T.

Choose Korean input with the 2-set layout. A Korean input method (IME)—the software that assembles Hangul letters as you type—combines those keystrokes into 쪗.

While composing a word, the final consonant may first appear at the end of this block, then move to the next block when you enter a vowel. That reshaping is normal.

Why does 쪗 sound or render differently?

Spelling, pronunciation, and font shape follow separate rules.

The last ㅅ is the syllable’s final consonant; the next syllable in a word can change how it is pronounced. Spelling alone does not give a reliable stand-alone pronunciation.

Unicode can store 쪗 as one precomposed syllable or as separate Hangul letters that a font arranges into one block. Fonts can vary the parts’ proportions and placement.

Neutral as Korean spelling; opaque when isolated from its word.

A lone 쪗 does not identify a Korean word; ask for the surrounding text.

1

Why does 쪗 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
