What 쯉 means
Use Korean input and enter ㅉ, ㅠ, then ㅂ.
On the standard South Korean two-set keyboard layout, Dubeolsik (두벌식), press ShiftW, then B, then Q. Korean input software joins the starting consonant, vowel, and final consonant into one block.
If the keys produce separate letters, Korean input may be off or another layout selected. Fonts can change the proportions of the parts without changing which character the block represents.
What does 쯉 mean by itself?
It is one syllable, not a complete word. As of October 2026, 쯉 has no established standalone Korean word or chat-reaction meaning; read it within a larger word, where context supplies meaning.
Hangul was devised under King Sejong to write Korean speech in a system ordinary people could learn. The earliest surviving record of its creation is in the Sejong Sillok, a royal chronicle, dated 1443; the Hunminjeongeum, a guide explaining the new alphabet, appeared in 1446.
Unicode's decomposed form uses three Hangul letters, called jamo: ᄍ is the opening consonant, ᅲ the vowel, and ᆸ the closing consonant. These are the syllable's components, not separate meanings.

1Why does 쯉 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
