What 좁 means

The full Korean word gives 좁 its meaning.

In 좁다 (“to be narrow”), 좁은 means “narrow” before a noun.

Hangul, the Korean writing system, was created in 1443; the 1446 guide Hunminjeongeum explained its purpose and principles. It was used alongside older methods that adapted Chinese characters to Korean, including Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal, and later carried religious, practical, and legal texts. It became official national writing in 1894.

Why does 좁 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
