What 좲 means
It writes one syllable inside a Korean word.
Hangul was developed under King Sejong in 1443 and promulgated in 1446. Its letters aimed to write Korean sounds directly and make literacy easier than relying on Chinese characters alone.
Why does 좲 split into three parts?
It is one Hangul block made from three basic letters.
Hangul's basic letters, jamo, are ᄌ at the start, ᅫ as the vowel, and ᆱ as the compound ending consonant. Unicode encodes them as 좲 or ᄌ ᅫ ᆱ.
A font that cannot join Hangul letters may show the three separately instead of as one compact block.
