hangul syllable kaenh

Hangul Syllable Kaenh

8855/11172

캖 is a written Korean syllable made from initial consonant ㅋ, vowel ㅐ and final cluster ㄶ. By itself, it does not show which word is intended; its meaning depends on the Korean word around it. A Korean input method builds it from ㅋ, ㅐ, ㄴ, then ㅎ.

What 캖 means

It is one written Korean syllable; the word around it supplies context. 캖 consists of ㅋ, ㅐ and final cluster ㄶ, arranged as one block. Alone, it does not identify the Korean word intended. A Korean input method builds it from ㅋ, ㅐ, ㄴ, then ㅎ.

Hangul was created in 1443 so Korean could be written with an alphabet designed for its sounds. Earlier methods adapted Chinese characters to record Korean speech; Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal were among them. Hangul's principles were explained in 1446.

Its public status later shifted. It became Korea's official national script in 1894, then lost that status under Japanese rule after 1910. Korean scholars kept studying and teaching Hangul and writing literature in it.

How do I type 캖?

On a Korean input method, enter ㅋ, ㅐ, ㄴ, then ㅎ. It joins ㄴ and ㅎ as final cluster ㄶ and composes the block. On a Latin-letter keyboard, switch to Korean input; typing kaenh as Latin letters does not produce 캖.

Unicode can also represent the same syllable as three positional jamo, or individual Hangul letters: 캖. If a text field leaves those parts separate, it is showing that decomposed sequence. Unicode NFC normalization, a standard text process, can combine them when supported.

Inside a Korean word, 캖 contributes one written syllable and its sound; alone, it does not reveal which word is intended.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 캖 appear as separate jamo?

It is the same syllable represented by its positional jamo sequence instead of the precomposed block. Unicode NFC normalization can combine the sequence when the editor supports it.
