What 캣 means
It supplies the “cat” part of Korean words. 캣 is one block made from three Hangul letters: ㅋ, ㅐ and ㅅ.
캣맘 means a person who cares for stray cats; 캣타워 means cat tower, and 캣닢 is catnip.
Why is 캣 a square?
Hangul groups letters into syllable blocks. That design gives 캣 its square shape.
King Sejong’s court designed Hangul to help people read without first mastering Chinese characters. Its creation dates to 1443; its explanatory book appeared in 1446. Hanja was the older use of Chinese characters in Korean writing. Hangul later served native Korean words, words built from Chinese characters, and borrowed words.

Questions people ask
1Why does 캣 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
