What 칾 means
Use z-k-f-a on Dubeolsik. The keys enter ㅋ, ㅏ, ㄹ, then ㅁ; the Korean IME joins the last two as final cluster ㄻ, a double final (겹받침).
Unicode can represent the same syllable with the conjoining-jamo sequence 칾. Software without Hangul shaping may show the pieces separately; their placement is font-dependent.
Does 칾 mean anything by itself?
It is a spelling block without a fixed meaning. It combines the opening consonant ㅋ, vowel ㅏ, and final cluster ㄻ (ㄹ and ㅁ sharing the bottom position). A surrounding Korean word supplies its meaning.
Hangul, Korea's alphabet, was designed to write Korean directly instead of relying only on Chinese characters and to broaden access to reading. Its documented milestones are 1443 and 1446: creation of the script, then publication of an explanation. Earlier Korean writing practices such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to record Korean; they are connected traditions, not ways to read 칾.
During Korea's modernization era, public labels for the script shifted. Some elites earlier called it eonmun, meaning vernacular writing; later usage included gukmun and Hangeul.

1Why does 칾 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
