What 멟 means
On its own, it has no fixed word meaning. In the block, ㅁ is the initial consonant, ㅔ the vowel, and ㄼ the final consonant cluster. Unicode’s “melb” label records these components; it does not translate a Korean word. The sound and meaning are read in the context of the Korean word that contains it.
Hangul was devised under King Sejong: its creation is first recorded in 1443, and the 1446 Hunminjeongeum book explained the new script. It aimed to make Korean writing more accessible alongside Hanja, the Chinese characters used in Korean. Hangul later grew from a vernacular option beside Hanja into the main script in both Koreas. South Korea commonly calls the script Hangeul; North Korea prefers Choseongul. The Phags-pa script, promulgated in 1269 for Mongol imperial use, has been proposed as an influence on Hangul’s design, but that connection is not settled.
How do I type 멟?
A Korean two-set keyboard assembles it as you type. Two-set is the Korean keyboard layout that assigns Hangul letters to keys; on a QWERTY-based layout, ㅁ, ㅔ, ㄹ, ㅂ map to A, P, F, Q. The input method joins the last two consonants into ㄼ and forms the block. Unicode’s separate conjoining Jamo, ᄆ ᅦ ᆲ, can normalize into the same precomposed syllable.
Use it inside a Korean word or as an explicit example of Hangul input.

Questions people ask
1Why does 멟 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
