What 멘 means
It supplies a syllable; the word supplies the meaning. Hangul stacks consonant and vowel letters into syllable blocks, so 멘 is sounded out as “men.”
Hangul was developed in 1443 and 1446 under King Sejong as an easier writing system than Chinese characters. Its building blocks are jamo; Hanja is the older Chinese-character tradition it addressed.
In 2012, Korean tech press described 멘붕 as shorthand for 멘탈 붕괴, meaning shock, confusion, or a mind gone blank. The slang belongs to the whole word, not to 멘 by itself.
Casual internet shorthand; use the full Korean phrase in formal writing.
