What 멮 means
In Korean game chats, 멮 can mean MapleStory; elsewhere, it is Hangul.
A Korean abbreviation list pairs 멮 with 메이플 and 메플, two Korean short forms for MapleStory. Korean gaming posts from 2021 and 2023 use 멮 the same way; one post title joins it to GG.
If the message gives no game clue, don't force either reading: check the surrounding Korean, especially whether 멮 sits inside a longer word.
Why does Hangul use syllable blocks?
Hangul joins letters into blocks that each write a Korean syllable.
The writing system is recorded by 1443 and was introduced in 1446 through Hunminjeongeum, a guide explaining its letters. It was designed so an opening consonant, a vowel and sometimes a closing consonant could combine into one syllable block.
The system was called Hunminjeongeum and by other names before Hangeul became widespread as its name in the 1920s. This history belongs to Hangul as a writing system; 멮 is one block its rules can form.
How do you type and display 멮?
Dubeolsik, the Korean keyboard layout, builds it from three key presses.
In Korean input mode, press A, P and V: those keys enter ㅁ, ㅔ and ㅍ, and the input method composes 멮. A, P and V are key positions, not an English spelling.
Unicode can also represent the same syllable with three Hangul jamo—ᄆ, ᅦ and ᇁ—instead of one precomposed block. These underlying jamo differ from the keyboard-style letters ㅁ, ㅔ and ㅍ. Fonts can shape them differently; without a Hangul-capable font, the syllable may appear as a box.
Casual shorthand in Korean MapleStory gaming circles as of 2026; literal Hangul elsewhere.
Without game clues, do not assume the MapleStory reading.

1Why does 멮 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
