What 뮂 means
Its meaning comes from the Korean word it belongs to. The block combines ㅁ at its start, ㅞ as its vowel, and ㅈ at its end.
King Sejong created Hangul for Korean in 1443. A 1446 guide called Hunminjeongeum explained its purpose and rules. Earlier writers adapted Chinese characters through Idu, a system for writing Korean with them.
Hangul spread through Buddhist texts, practical writing, and daily literature. It became Korea’s official writing system in 1894; Japan’s annexation of Korea in 1910 ended that status, though use and study continued.

1Why does 뮂 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
