What 몠 means

It supplies one syllable; surrounding text determines the word.

몠 joins ㅁ (an initial consonant), ㅖ (a vowel) and ㅆ (a final consonant). Hangul’s component letters are called jamo. Unicode’s technical label “Myess” names this sequence.

Hangul was devised in 1443, and an explanatory text about it appeared in 1446. It offered a way to write Korean speech directly, where Chinese characters did not fit the language well. Over time, Hangul appeared in Buddhist and Confucian books, letters, labels and practical materials. It became Korea’s official writing system in 1894; Japanese colonial authorities later suppressed its use, making the script an issue of language and identity.

How do I type 몠?

On the standard Korean 2-set layout, press A, ShiftP, then ShiftT.

Switch to Korean input. On this layout, A enters ㅁ, ShiftP enters ㅖ and ShiftT enters ㅆ; the input method combines them into 몠.

Why can 몠 split into separate letters?

Unicode can store the syllable as its component letters.

Those letters are jamo—the consonant and vowel components used to build Hangul syllable blocks. Unicode normalization can represent 몠 as either one precomposed block or a sequence of jamo. A capable renderer displays the decomposed sequence as one block; separate display can point to a font or shaping limitation.

Why is 몠 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
