What 믥 means
To let people write Korean directly and learn the script more easily. King Sejong created Hangul in 1443 under the name Hunminjeongeum. A book with that title, published in 1446, explained the script’s purpose and design. Before Hangul, Korean writers used Chinese characters to write Korean in systems such as Idu and hyangchal. The name Hangeul became widely used in 1928, when the holiday celebrating the script was renamed Hangeulnal.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
