What 묣 means
It spells a syllable, but has no established standalone meaning. As of 2026, the Korean Basic Dictionary has no standalone entry for it. “Myolb” labels the block’s jamo, or component letters: ㅁ, ㅛ, and the final cluster ㄹㅂ.
The first recorded mention of Hunminjeongeum dates to 1443; its explanatory book appeared in 1446. Hangul was created for Korean, whose speech differed from Chinese. Earlier systems such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to write Korean, but were difficult to use. The stated goal was broader access to reading and writing. Hangul later became the standard writing system for Korean.
How to type 묣
With Korean 2-set input active, press A-Y-F-Q. Those keys enter ㅁ, ㅛ, ㄹ, and ㅂ in order. Korean input software combines them into 묣; the last two form one final consonant cluster, not a second syllable.
Why does 묣 split into separate letters?
It is the same syllable represented in a different form. Unicode can compose Hangul jamo into one block or decompose it into separate letters. Text normalization or an input method can expose those components. A font may draw the block differently, but its styling alone does not make a different character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 묣 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
