What 닉 means
It is a Hangul syllable and casual nickname shorthand.
Say it roughly nik. In Korean game chat, 닉 clips 닉네임, the loanword for nickname: a 2022 MapleStory discussion uses 닉 장사꾼 for people trading game names. Write 닉네임 outside that casual register.
Why does Unicode call 닉 NIG?
NIG is Unicode's build label, not a meaning.
Hangul, devised in the 15th century to write Korean, stacks small letters called jamo into one block. 닉 stacks ㄴ plus ㅣ plus final ㄱ, which sounds like k, so nik is the everyday romanization.
