Hangul Syllable Nilp

1751/11172

닖 is one Korean Hangul syllable block; its “nilp” name labels the parts, not a word meaning or reaction. In a Korean word, the final cluster ㄿ changes sound with what follows.

What 닖 means

By itself, 닖 is a syllable block, not a complete message.

Hangul builds each syllable from consonant and vowel letters. In 닖, ㄴ ㅣ forms 니, roughly “nee”; ㄹ ㅍ makes final cluster ㄿ. At a word end or before another consonant, ㄿ is heard as one final p sound; before a vowel, ㅍ can join the next syllable.

Hangul was devised in 1443 and explained in 1446 in Hunminjeongeum, a book introducing the new writing system. It gave Korean speakers letters designed for their language. Earlier practices such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to write Korean; they are part of the writing history around Hangul, not glyph ancestors of 닖. Hangul's public role changed during the Joseon era and Japanese rule, and it later became Korea's national script.

What does 닖 mean when someone sends it?

Ask for context; 닖 alone gives no dependable social tone.

If it arrives by itself, do not read approval, sarcasm, affection, or a joke into it. It could be a fragment of a larger word or an input test. Ask what word or sentence the sender intended.

How do I type 닖?

On a Korean 2-set keyboard, enter ㄴ, ㅣ, ㄹ, then ㅍ.

On the Korean 2-set QWERTY layout, type s-l-f-v: sㄴ, lㅣ, fㄹ, vㅍ. The IME combines ㄹ ㅍ as final ㄿ; if it leaves the letters separate, confirm Korean 2-set input is active.

Neutral as a Hangul block; by itself it has no dependable conversational tone.

When 닖 arrives alone, ask for its surrounding word instead of treating it as a reaction.
