Hangul syllable Nwelm

1607/11172

뉆 is a Korean Hangul syllable block, a single written unit for one spoken syllable. King Sejong devised Hangul in 1443 so Korean could be written directly; older methods, including Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal, adapted Chinese characters to Korean. The 1446 Hunminjeongeum guide (“Correct Sounds for Teaching the People”) explained the system; Hangul became Korea’s official national writing system in 1894.

1

Why does 뉆 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
