What 왿 means
It combines an initial consonant, a vowel and a final consonant.
These Hangul jamo—letters used to form syllables—are ㅇ (initial), ㅚ (vowel) and ㄷ (final).
Why does Hangul use blocks?
Each block represents one Korean syllable.
Hangul was created in 1443. Its guide, Hunminjeongeum, explained the new script in 1446. The design aimed to make Korean easier to write than older methods that adapted Chinese characters to Korean words or grammar, such as Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal. Hangul became Korea’s national script in 1894.
