What 팝 means
팝 is the Korean spelling of “pop,” usually the music genre.
It is a loanword written in Hangul, the Korean writing system. The surrounding word narrows it: 팝송 means a pop song, 케이팝 means K-pop, and 팝 음악 means pop music.
Korean popular song is traced to around 1923; the history of the music and the history of the word 팝 are different. In the 1960s, 팝 was associated with stages linked to the U.S. Eighth Army and with urban musical tastes. The 1961 hit “노란 샤쓰의 사나이” (“The Man in the Yellow Shirt”) helped make 팝 a style within 가요, the broad category of Korean popular song. From the mid-1960s to mid-1980s, 팝 and 팝스 also referred to domestically produced music.
What does 팝 mean when someone sends it alone?
Alone, 팝 is too little to pin down.
Treat it as a music label only if the surrounding message supplies that topic. By itself, it is not a dependable mood, compliment, or reply. If the intent matters, ask whether the sender means a song, the genre, or Korean pop.
Neutral as a Korean music label; it carries no dependable tone by itself.
A lone 팝 is not a reliable compliment or reaction.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
