What 플 means
Usually, 플 is a syllable inside a longer Korean word.
It combines ㅍ, ㅡ, and ㄹ into one block, pronounced roughly “peul.” Think of Hangul blocks as syllable-sized boxes: the full Korean word around 플 supplies the meaning, so the block alone usually has no English-style translation. Hangul was developed in 1443 and explained in 1446 to give Korean an alphabet suited to its sounds.
An older Middle Korean spelling, 플〮, meant “grass” and led to modern 풀. That historical form is not the everyday meaning of today’s plain 플.
Can 플 mean “play”?
In a Korean BDSM context, 플 can abbreviate 플레이, “play.”
A 2013 Korean BDSM glossary uses 플 as a clipping of 플레이 for BDSM play, including standalone uses and labels for kinds of play. That is a niche convention, not a general translation for every occurrence of the block.
A bare 플 is under-specified. Ask what word or shorthand the sender intends before responding.
How do I type 플?
Use a Korean IME and enter ㅍ, ㅡ, then ㄹ.
The IME should compose those jamo into one syllable block. Copy it from the palette above if typing is awkward. If the pieces stay separate, composition is off; that is an input-state problem, not a different symbol.
Neutral as a syllable; potentially sexual as standalone Korean shorthand.
A lone 플 can mean BDSM play; ask before echoing it.
