What 픈 means
It has no standalone meaning; the surrounding Korean word supplies it.
In forms such as 예쁜 꽃 (“pretty flower”), 픈 is the final syllable of an adjective form placed before a noun. The same pattern appears in 바쁜 and 아픈. Translate the complete Korean word rather than this block alone.
How did 픈 come to exist?
It follows Hangul's documented syllable-building system.
Hangul was created to write Korean speech. The 1446 Hunminjeongeum Haerye documents how initial consonants, vowels, and final consonants combine into syllable blocks.
As of 2026-09-17, 픈 has no recorded first use separate from that system. Its identity is structural: ㅍ is the initial, ㅡ the medial vowel, and ㄴ the final consonant, built like every other modern Hangul syllable.
How do you type 픈?
Enter ㅍ, ㅡ, then ㄴ in a Korean IME.
The IME composes those keystrokes into one block. Copy it from the palette above if Korean input is not enabled.

Questions people ask
2Is 픈 an emoji?
No. It is a Korean text syllable, not an emoji reaction; read the Korean word around it.
Can a different font change what 픈 means?
No. Hangul typefaces can reposition or resize the component letters inside the block, changing its look without changing the character or its reading.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
