What 푸 means
Press v, then n on standard Dubeolsik.
With Korean input active, v enters ㅍ and n enters ㅜ; the input method combines them into 푸.
What does 푸 mean in Korean?
The full Korean word supplies the meaning.
The Revised Romanization writes 푸 as pu, roughly like English “poo.” In 푸르다, for example, the full word can describe a blue-green color, something unripe, youth, hope, freshness, or coldness; those meanings belong to the word.
As of 2026, 푸 can also stand alone in Korean as a sound effect for a puff of air or a weak fart.
Why is 푸 one block?
Hangul groups consonant and vowel letters into syllable blocks.
Hangul was designed to write Korean speech, which differs from Chinese. King Sejong completed the alphabet, then called Hunminjeongeum (훈민정음), in 1443; an explanatory manuscript with that title was published in 1446. Records show the name Hangul in use from the early 1910s.
Inside a Korean word, 푸 is ordinary spelling; alone, its sound-effect use is playful.
The blue-green sense belongs to a full word such as 푸르다, not to 푸 by itself.
