What 푣 means
It is a Hangul syllable block, not a word-level translation. The Unicode name element pyod describes how the block is assembled: ㅍ begins it, ㅛ is its vowel, and ㄷ closes it. Hangul groups these letter components into syllables; the block does not translate to a complete Korean word on its own. Read a lone 푣 against its neighboring text.
Hangul was developed in 1443 and formally promulgated in 1446. Before its introduction, Korean writers used Chinese characters and adapted writing methods to record Korean; Hangul offered a more accessible way to read and write the language. It later appeared in Buddhist, practical, educational, and literary publishing before becoming Korea's public writing system.
How do I type 푣 on a Korean keyboard?
On the standard South Korean two-set layout, type v, y, then e. With a Korean IME, those keys produce ㅍ, ㅛ, and ㄷ in sequence; the IME moves ㄷ into the block's final position and forms 푣. The Unicode name element pyod is an identifier, not a keystroke sequence.
The same syllable can be stored as precomposed 푣 or as three conjoining letter components, 푣. Some software may expose those components before shaping displays them as a block; NFC normalization can compose them again. The reading is the same.
Why does [푣때] appear in 푯대?
It is a pronunciation notation for 푯대. Korean spelling 푯대 contains 사이시옷, a ㅅ used in some compound words. Pronunciation guides give [표때] and [푣때] for the word. The latter writes the ㅅ's final consonant sound as ㄷ before the tense ㄸ.
Neutral as a text character; its standalone word-level reading needs Korean context.
Don't replace it with 표: the missing final ㄷ changes the syllable.

1Why does 푣 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
