What 랆 means
It is one written Korean syllable, not a whole word. Its parts are ㄹ (initial consonant), ㅏ (vowel), and ㄻ (final consonant pair), called 겹받침 in Korean.
Hangul blocks combine individual letters, called jamo. A notice announcing the script's creation dates to 1443; an explanatory book followed in 1446. Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to write than the Chinese-character system used by educated elites. Some scholars propose influence from the Phags-pa script; the debated link concerns Hangul's design, not 랆 alone.
