What 랏 means
It needs the rest of the word. Alone, 랏 is one Korean syllable; the surrounding word gives it a role.
In the 15th-century Hunminjeongeum preface, the text that introduced Hangeul, 랏 appears in 나랏말, “the country's speech.” Hangeul made Korean writing more accessible than relying on Chinese characters used in scholarly writing. The older Korean word 랏 named foxtail and related grasses; later forms include 가랏 and 가라지. By the 19th century, the Korean name 강아지풀 for foxtail grass had replaced those older forms.
The Unicode text standard can store 랏 as one Hangul block or as its equivalent letter parts, ᄅ + ᅡ + ᆺ. Fonts arrange them into a square, with visible details that can vary.
