Hangul syllable reols

Enter ㄹ, ㅓ, ㄹ, and ㅅ in a Korean input method; it combines them into 럸. The result is one Korean syllable, not a complete message, so its meaning depends on the surrounding word.

What 럸 means

A Korean input method assembles its letters into one block.

Enter ㄹ, then ㅓ, then ㄹ and ㅅ as the ending pair. The input method combines the last two as the ending consonant cluster and places all four letters in one syllable block. If your layout leaves them separate, select the precomposed syllable in a character map or IME Pad.

What does 럸 mean?

By itself, 럸 is one syllable, not a complete message.

Its parts are ㄹ at the start, ㅓ as the vowel, and ㄽ as the ending consonant cluster. That makes it one Korean syllable within a word, not a standalone idea; the surrounding Korean word supplies the meaning. A message containing only 럸 is best read as a text fragment, so ask what word or spelling was intended.

Why are Hangul syllables written in blocks?

Each block keeps one spoken syllable together with its letters.

The earliest recorded reference to Hangul's creation is dated 1443; its explanatory text was published in 1446. The preface says Korean speech did not match Chinese characters, leaving many people unable to communicate in writing, and presents ease of everyday use as the aim.

Earlier Korean writing relied on Classical Chinese and adaptations called Idu, which used Chinese characters to represent Korean. Hangul became the alphabet used to write Korean; for much of the 20th century, texts mixed Hangul with Hanja, the Chinese characters used in Korean. Hangul's syllable blocks fit the square visual rhythm of Chinese writing, but Hangul itself uses alphabetic letters to write Korean.

Technical and language-learning register; alone, it reads as a fragment of a Korean word.

Alone, 럸 can look like a typo because it is only one syllable from a Korean word.
