What 뤖 means
It spells a syllable; it does not name a word by itself. Hangul blocks are assembled from consonant and vowel letters; here the parts are ᄅ at the start, ᅯ as the vowel, and ᆹ at the end.
With Korean input enabled on the standard 2-set keyboard, this block takes fnjqt.
Why was Hangul created?
It gave the Korean kingdom of Joseon a script for Korean speech. The creation is recorded in 1443. A guidebook titled Hunminjeongeum (“Correct Sounds for the Instruction of the People”), published in 1446, explains the script’s purpose and design.
Earlier labels included jeongeum (“correct sounds”) and eonmun (“vernacular writing”). After the Gabo Reform of 1894, gukmun (“national writing”) became common. The name Hangeul appears in records from the early 1910s and was widely used by 1928.
The Phags-pa script, a square-shaped writing system designed for Mongolian and other languages under Mongol rule, has been proposed as an influence on Hangul. It is a possible connection, not a settled origin.
