What 렸 means
렸 is a Korean syllable block, not a word by itself.
Its three Korean letters, called jamo, are ㄹ + ㅕ + ㅆ. With 달리다 (“to run”), the stem 달리- combines with the past-tense ending -었어요 to form 달렸어요 (“ran”): ㅣ + ㅓ contracts to 여. The block 렸 is part of that ending.
Hangul was announced in 1443, and the explanatory book Hunminjeongeum appeared in 1446. The book describes a system designed to write Korean speech by combining an initial consonant, a vowel and, when needed, a final consonant into each block.
How do I type 렸?
Use a Korean input method and enter three jamo.
On the Dubeolsik (Korean two-set) keyboard layout, switch to Korean and press f, u, then Shift+t. Those keys enter ㄹ, ㅕ and ㅆ; the input method assembles them into 렸.
If the output stays ㄹㅕㅆ, the input method has not composed the syllable. Unicode can represent 렸 as one precomposed character or as conjoining jamo that a font displays as one block; those are different character sequences.
Questions people ask
1Why does 렸 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
