What 륨 means
The complete Korean word supplies its meaning.
Hangul, the Korean writing system, was created and formally promulgated in 1443 and 1446, respectively. Its letters group into Hangul syllable blocks: 륨 combines ㄹ (initial consonant), ㅠ (vowel), and ㅁ (final consonant).
륨 commonly closes Korean element names: 헬륨 (helium), 나트륨 (sodium), 칼륨 (potassium), and 바륨 (barium). As of 2026, Korean dictionary guidance treats 나트륨/소듐 and 칼륨/포타슘 as ordinary-use synonyms, so the same element can have names with and without 륨.
