What 쇱 means
It contributes a syllable sound, not a complete word meaning.
Look at the surrounding Korean letters to identify the word; 쇱 is one syllable within it.
Why is 쇱 made of three letters?
Each letter fills a different position in one Korean syllable.
Hangul's consonant and vowel letters are called jamo. They sit together in a compact block for one syllable. In 쇱, ㅅ opens the block, ㅚ supplies the vowel, and ㅂ closes it.
Hangul was designed for Korean writing
King Sejong introduced the new Korean writing system under the name 훈민정음 in 1443. Before 1443, Korean was written with Chinese characters and systems adapted from them; Hangul offered a more accessible way to write Korean. An explanatory book titled 훈민정음 appeared in 1446. 쇱 was not invented as a separate sign: it is one block formed by Hangul's regular consonant-vowel pattern.
