What 솥 means
It names a Korean cooking pot or cauldron.
Recorded in the 1466 text Gugeupbang eonhae, 솥 meant “kettle” or “cauldron.” The vessel is older: wealthy households on the Korean peninsula cooked grain in iron kettles roughly 1,500 years ago. In the 4th–5th centuries, Baekje, an ancient Korean kingdom, used a bronze tripod cauldron of a type introduced through exchanges with China's Southern Dynasties.
Why does 솥이 sound like 소치?
Its ending changes before the next vowel.
Alone, 솥 ends in a t-like sound; before 이, ㅌ shifts to a “ch” sound, as in “cheese,” so 솥이 is roughly “so-chee.” With 만, 솥만 sounds like “son-man.” The spelling stays 솥.

1Why does 솥 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
