What 썜 means
It combines Hangul’s first consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant.
In this block, ㅆ is the initial consonant, ㅒ the vowel, and ㅁ the final consonant.
King Sejong created Hangul in 1443 to make Korean easier to write. The 1446 book 훈민정음 set out the new script’s principles. Before Hangul, Korean writing used Chinese characters adapted to Korean words and sounds. Hangul became Korea’s official writing system in 1894; Japan’s 1910 annexation ended that status.
쌤 is casual; use 선생님 to address a teacher respectfully.
