Hangul syllable Ssyup

Type 쓮 on a Korean 2-set keyboard with ShiftT, then B, then V; the Hangul input method joins the three jamo (letter components) into one block. 쓮 is a syllable, not a standalone word, so the surrounding Korean text supplies its meaning. Separate jamo can be the same syllable in decomposed form.

What 쓮 means

Use Korean 2-set: ShiftT, B, then V.

On the Korean 2-set keyboard, also called Dubeolsik, T types ㅅ, ShiftT types ㅆ, B types ㅠ, and V types ㅍ. The input method combines these jamo (Hangul letter components) into one syllable block. Other layouts assign the components to different keys.

If the keyboard is in English mode, those keys type Latin letters instead; switch the input method to Korean/Hangul first.

What does 쓮 mean?

It is one Hangul syllable, not a standalone word.

The romanized label “ssyup” describes the block’s sound structure, not a translation. Hangul syllables combine an initial consonant, a vowel, and sometimes a final consonant. 쓮 uses ㅆ, ㅠ, and ㅍ in those positions, so the surrounding Korean word or sentence supplies its lexical meaning.

The Sejong annals, a royal chronicle, mention Hunminjeongeum in 1443. A guide to the writing system with that title was published in 1446; it explains the script’s purpose and how consonants and vowels form syllable blocks. The script’s public name also changed: “Hangeul” entered use in the early 1910s and was widely used by 1928.

Why does 쓮 show as separate jamo?

It can be the same syllable in decomposed form.

Unicode represents modern Hangul both as precomposed syllable blocks and as ordered jamo sequences. If text is normalized to the decomposed form, the components can appear separately; NFC recomposes an eligible sequence into one block. The reading and meaning stay the same.

The block itself is neutral; any tone comes from the Korean word and message around it.

A lone 쓮 gives too little context to infer a word or reaction.

Do separate jamo change what 쓮 means?

No. In the canonical decomposed form 쓮, the components make the same syllable; NFC can recompose an eligible sequence into 쓮.
