Text symbol

What 셖 means

It combines a first consonant, a vowel, and an ending consonant.

Unicode's full breakdown writes them as ᄉ, ᅧ, and ᆩ in those positions.

Why was Hangul created?

Hangul gave Korean an easier-to-learn writing system.

Before Hangul, Korean writers used Chinese characters through Idu (for grammar), Gugyeol (reading marks on Chinese texts), and Hyangchal (for Korean songs). Hangul's creation is recorded in 1443; the 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explains its design.

First used in Buddhist texts, Hangul later carried Confucian works, practical guides, and letters. It became Korea's official writing system in 1894, then lost that status under Japanese rule in 1910.
