What 텗 means
It has no fixed standalone meaning; it is one Hangul syllable block.
Hangul jamo are letters that combine into syllable blocks; 텗 combines ᄐ, ᅦ, and ᆲ. Unicode generates “TELB” from their names, so the label describes the components rather than translating a Korean word.
The relevant history is Hangul’s: the writing system was created in 1443 and explained in 1446 in 훈민정음, a guide to the new letters.
Why was Hangul made?
Hangul gave Korean a writing system designed for Korean speech.
Earlier methods such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to record Korean, even though Korean differed from Chinese. Hangul offered a simpler native system: reusable letters arranged into syllable blocks.
Hangul spread through Buddhist and Confucian publications and everyday writing before becoming Korea’s official national writing system in 1894.
