What 톢 means
It is one Korean syllable block built from three Hangul letters.
Its three component letters, called jamo, are ㅌ (initial consonant), ㅗ (vowel), and ㄲ (final consonant). The surrounding Korean spelling supplies the reading; alone, 톢 does not signal a mood or reaction.
Hangul's development was completed in 1443, and its guide, the Hunminjeongeum, was formally published in 1446. Hangul was designed to write Korean speech with Korean letters, in a writing culture that also used Hanja (Chinese characters read in Korean). Later debates considered mixing Hangul with Hanja or writing Hangul letters in a line; standard Korean keeps syllable blocks. Hangul also serves as a visible marker of Korean identity in public and cultural life.
How do I type 톢?
On 2-Set, enter x, h, then Shiftr in a Korean input method.
A Korean input method (IME) combines the letters as you type: x gives ㅌ, h gives ㅗ, and Shift+r gives ㄲ. Together they form 톢. A 3-Set keyboard or phone may assign those letters to different keys.
As of 2026, macOS lists both 2-Set and 3-Set Korean input sources; its Keyboard Viewer shows the active key mapping. If the result is 톡, the last input produced ㄱ instead of ㄲ.
Neutral inside correctly spelled Korean text; conspicuously odd as a standalone decorative mark.
Use it when the Korean spelling calls for it; alone, it says little.
