What 턬 means
It joins three Hangul jamo into one syllable block. Jamo are Hangul’s building-block letters: an initial consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant. Together, they make one Korean syllable.
If someone sends this block alone, ask which Korean word or sentence it came from before reading a tone into it.
Why are Hangul syllables written in blocks?
Blocks make each assembled syllable visible as a unit. King Sejong devised Hangeul in 1443; the 1446 guide 훈민정음 explained its design. Its letters gave Korean readers a way to write the language without relying mainly on Chinese characters.
Use spread from royal and religious printing to homes, practical books, labels, and public communication. Hangeul became the official national writing system in 1894 and lost that status after Japanese rule of Korea began in 1910. This is the script’s history, not a separate backstory for 턬.
Neutral as a written syllable; on its own, it leaves a message hard to read.
One block is not enough to judge tone; ask for the word or sentence.

Questions people ask
2Why did Korean input produce a different syllable?
Because the IME assigns consonants to a block’s beginning or end according to the typing sequence. Enter ㅌ, ㅒ, and ㅋ as a complete syllable, then check the finished block.
Can 턬 look different in another font?
Yes. Hangul typefaces can shift and space the component letters within the square block. A changed arrangement can be a font difference; it does not by itself prove that the character changed.
