What 텨 means
On a Korean two-set keyboard, press x, then u.
The x key types ㅌ and the u key types ㅕ; the Korean input method combines them into 텨.
Is 텨 a word?
It is a syllable block, usually part of a word.
The Korean alphabet, Hangul, groups consonant and vowel letters into syllables. Hangul was created as a learnable writing system for people who did not know Chinese characters; its creation is documented in 1443–1446.
Some older forms written with 텨 shifted toward 쳐 through palatalization, a sound change toward a “ch” sound, associated with the 17th–18th centuries. As of 2026, the National Institute of Korean Language records -ㄹ텨 as a dialectal ending in Chungcheongnam-do, a province in South Korea, corresponding to -ㄹ래.
Why can 텨 appear in two parts?
The same syllable can be encoded as one block or two letters.
Unicode can store 텨 as a precomposed syllable or as the conjoining letters ᄐ and ᅧ. Text normalization may convert between these forms, and Hangul-aware shaping displays the two-letter form as one block.
Neutral as Korean writing; -ㄹ텨 marks a regional form.
A lone 텨 has no dependable reading without its sentence.
