What 튨 means
King Sejong created Hangul to make Korean writing easier to learn. Before Hangul, written Korean relied on Chinese characters and adaptations such as Idu, which repurposed them for Korean speech. During the 1443 project, Sejong's court studied a Chinese Song-dynasty chart for classifying speech sounds and the Mongolian Phags-pa script. Some Hangul letter shapes resemble those sources, but Hangul was not directly derived from them. The 1446 Hunminjeongeum Haerye is a book explaining Hangul's letters and how syllables are assembled.

1Why does 튨 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
