What 욱 means
욱하다 means to flare up suddenly, often in anger. 욱하는 성질 means a quick temper; 욱하고 화가 치밀다 means anger surges.
욱 combines three Hangul letters: initial ᄋ, vowel ᅮ and final ᆨ. Hangul was developed in 1443 and promulgated in 1446.
Does 욱 mean anger in a name?
No; 욱 itself does not mean anger in a name. Hanja are Chinese characters used in Korean names; the chosen character supplies the intended meaning.
A 2006 Korean word-history study traces an older form, 욱(上, “above”), through 웋 and 우 to 위, “above.” That history is separate from 욱하다.
욱하다 signals a sudden flare-up, often of anger.
A name containing 욱 does not itself mean anger.
