hangul syllable weolb

Hangul Syllable Weolb

6872/11172

웗 is a Korean syllable block built from ㅇ, ㅝ, and the final cluster ㄹㅂ; on its own, it gives spelling structure but not enough context to identify a word. In Korean text, it contributes one syllable to a word. A different font may space the same block differently.

What 웗 means

It is a Korean syllable block, but alone it does not identify a word.

A Hangul decomposition is ㅇ ㅝ ㄹㅂ: an initial letter, a vowel, and a final consonant cluster. These components show how the syllable is spelled; the surrounding Korean word supplies its lexical meaning.

A message containing only 웗 gives too little context to identify a word. Ask what word it belongs to before reading it as a reaction.

Hangul blocks grew out of a writing system.

The block design comes from Hangeul, the Korean alphabet for writing Korean. Hangeul's creation is dated to 1443, and its guide, 훈민정음, appeared in 1446.

After 1446, Chinese characters remained in use among officials and scholars, while court women and Buddhist communities also used Hangeul. Later, Hangeul books and letters helped make the syllable-block system part of everyday reading and writing.

How do I type 웗?

On Korean 2-set, type dnjfq.

With a Korean IME active, d makes ㅇ, nj makes ㅝ, and fq makes ㄹㅂ; the input method combines those pieces into 웗.

If the letters stay separate, turn on Hangul syllable composition in the IME.

Neutral inside Korean spelling, but context-poor as a message on its own.

Alone, 웗 cannot tell you which Korean word was intended.

Why does 웗 look different in another font?

It can. Hangul fonts position and space the initial, vowel, and final components differently; stroke weight can also change while the character remains 웗.

Why is 웗 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
