What 𐴵 means
This Hanifi Rohingya character writes five.
Rohingya scholars saw the need for a dedicated script around 1960. A signed chart records Rohingya scholar Mohammad Hanif and colleagues finalizing it on 19 February 1980; primers and arithmetic books show its digits in use.
Arabic shaped Hanifi’s appearance and structure, but it was made for Rohingya. Rohingya is also written in Arabic, Latin and Myanmar scripts. As of 2026, Hanifi appeared in books, newspapers and online, while Rohingyalish was common in informal digital messages.
