What 𞲮 means
It marks one half in Indic Siyaq notation.
Indic Siyaq is South Asia's branch of a historical accounting number system.
The wider system began as state-accounting shorthand: scribes shortened Arabic number words into stylized signs, hard for untrained readers to decipher.
Its earliest surviving evidence is from accounts of the early 10th century. Siyaq later served government, trade and landholding across Persian-influenced regions; Indic Siyaq was in use under the Mughals by the 17th century and into the mid-20th century.
Can I use 𞲮 instead of ½?
Only when reproducing Indic Siyaq.
It marks half within a Siyaq account amount; use ½ or 1/2 for an ordinary fraction.
Don't confuse it with

Questions people ask
1Why does 𞲮 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
