What 𞲔 means

It recorded amounts in financial and administrative accounts.

South Asian raqm is a regional siyaq system, with related forms in Persian and Ottoman Turkish records. Siyaq signs shortened Arabic number names; India’s largest number groups also used words from Indian languages. Common under the Mughals by the 17th century, it remained in use into the middle of the 20th century.

Northern and Deccani (southern Indian) styles differed for large numbers. Deccani accounts could combine nine with one thousand instead of using one 9,000 sign.

Questions people ask

1

Does Siyaq run right to left?

Yes. Siyaq follows Arabic script, which runs right to left. Longer numbers put larger values first; combinations from 11 to 99 reverse that order.
