What ꧅ means
It marks the writer as higher-ranked than the addressee. Pada luhur (꧅) is Javanese punctuation placed at the start of a formal letter to someone of lower rank.
A 1906 Javanese grammar documents this letter convention. The Javanese script developed from Kawi, an older script; Balinese is related, and older Kawi verse also used related punctuation.
What if someone sends ꧅ alone?
It names a Javanese mark, not a clear personal message. Treat it as a reference to Javanese writing and ask what the sender intended.
Why does ꧅ also appear in verse?
In verse, it marks boundaries and frames poetic sections. A single pada can separate stanzas, while set sequences signal an opening, a change of song, or an ending.
Purwa pada marks a poem's opening, madya pada marks a change to a new song, and wasana pada marks its ending.
Formal and status-marking in letters; structural in verse. Its meaning depends on Javanese writing conventions.
Addressing a superior with ꧅ can signal that you outrank them.
