khitan small script character-18b3d

Khitan Small Script character 18B3D

62/471

𘬽 is a character in Khitan Small Script, used to write Khitan. Tradition says Yelü Diela created it around 925, using Chinese character forms and Uyghur sound patterns. A 2026 study argues the script was organized later; the earliest secure inscription dates to 1051. Khitan writing mixed word and sound signs in Liao records and tomb epitaphs, then influenced Jurchen scripts. Unicode gives it an ID, not a translation.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘬽 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 13.0 (2020), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
