What ⨔ means

It marks a path that leaves the pole out.

A line integral adds up a quantity along a curve. ⨒ and ⨓ are related operators for other paths around a pole.

Where did the name npolint appear?

It first appeared in a MathML character table.

In 1998, MathML listed the entity under ISOTECH, a set of ISO technical symbols, and mapped it to U+E399, a private-use code point without a standard character meaning. Unicode later assigned ⨔.

Why does ⨔ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
